Full Matric Results Release Schedule, In just a few weeks, the Grade 12 Matric Class of 2023 will receive their examination results. Here are the steps taken by the education department before the results can be released to the learners.

Students can check the online results of the 12-grade exam 2023 of all the SA boards that conducted matriculation exams in July 2023. Generally, the SA Boards announce 12th-class results 90 days after the exam date. The students from respective boards can check South African Board Matric Results published on their boards” websites or can obtain the Gazette of Boards at a time sharp 9 AM on the result day.

Expect delays or load times because Department of Education websites will be extremely busy with everyone checking for matric results. Beware, many matric students will be calling in to check for results, so you may have to wait a good amount of time for results.

Students are advised to look at https://www.education.gov.za website on or about the same date to find their matric results for the year 2023. Exam Board students may check the results of the 2023 Boards of Matriculation on the IEB website around the same dates. Last year, matric results were announced on July 1st, both from the IEB website and the Intermediate & Secondary Education Board. Step 1 – Matrics Begin Final Exams

Matriculants commenced with their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations on 27 October 2022. The first exam kicked off the 2021 matric exam season with just below 900 000 learners writing various examinations for a 6 week period.

Step 2 – Marking Starts

More than 41 000 markers were employed by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to mark at 193 marking centers in the country’s nine provinces. The marking process took place between 8 December 2021 and ended on 22 December 2022

Step 3 – Capturing Marks

Once the scripts were marked, the marks obtained by the students had to be captured. The process of mark capturing concluded on 27 December 2022.

Step 4 – NEIC meeting

In the first week of January 2023, the National Examinations Irregularities Committee (NEIC) meeting took place.

The NEIC supports the Provincial Departments of Education to ensure the credibility of the examination is maintained and also coordinates the handling of irregularities on a national level to ensure that a consistent approach is implemented in the handling of all irregularities.

This process concluded on 3 January 2023.

Step 5 – Pre-standardisation meeting (DBE)

The Department of Basic Education hosts its own pre-standardisation meeting before presenting its findings to Umalusi.

Step 6 – Umalusi Standardisation

Umalusi is the body that ensures that examinations are up to standard. They monitor and set the standard for the matric examinations. They will commence with the standardisation process on 6 January 2022.

Step 7 – Umalusi Approval of Results

On 14 January 2023, Umalusi is expected to announce their approval of the 2021 NSC examination results.

Step 8 – Ministerial Announcement

On 20 January 2023, the Minister of Basic Education will announce the outcome of the results of the 2021 NSC examinations. Here information about the pass rate of South Africa’s nine provinces are shared with the country. In the past, learners who have achieved excellent results are also celebrated.

Step 9 – Provincial Release of Results

On 21 January 2023, a day after the ministerial announcement, provinces will be authorised to release their results. It is on this day when matriculates can expect to receive their 2023 matric results.

What Time Will Matric Results 2022 Be Released?

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced that the Matric results release date for 2023 is the 20th of January. It is expected that the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga will announce the outcome of the final exam at 18:00, on the 19th of January 2023 in a media briefing.

How To Get Your Matric Results Via SMS 2022

  • Send your ID number and exam number via SMS to 35658.
  • Both numbers must have 13 digits to be accepted, and there is a once-off cost of R3 to register.
  • Once registration is completed, results will be delivered by SMS when they are released.
  • Please note that the SMS will cost you R1.50
  • You will receive your Matric results once they are available

Use the USSD service by dialling *120*35658#.

  • After answering multiple questions, enter your ID number.
  • You’ll receive your results per subject after you have completed the process.
  • You’ll have the option to opt in or out to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act.
