Forest Industries Training Institute (FITI) is a public Institution operating under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT). It is the only institute in the country which offers certificate and diploma courses in forest industries technology. FITI was established in 1975 as the ministerial institution with responsibilities of training workers whom at that time were responsible for running state owned wood industries.

The Forestry Industries Training Institute (FITI) is a public institution operating under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
FITI was established in November 1976 through the financial assistance of the Swedish government.
In the beginning, the overall objective of the institute was to train middle-caudal workers needed in the running of the state-owned wood industry known as Tanzania Wood Industries Corporation (TWICO).
At the end of the Swedish funding program in 1980, FITI managed to secure financial support from the Finnish International Development Agency (FINNIDA) for the period from 1980 to 1988.
From 1988 to date, FITI has been run by the government of Tanzania and its main objective is to provide specialized forestry technical training and services in the wood industry.
FITI is registered and fully accredited by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
Since its inception, many changes have taken place in terms of the types of programs offered and the number of students admitted.
From 1976 to 1980, FITI trained and offered various certificates and short courses in sawmilling and saw doctoring, woodworking, logging, and machine technology, classified into two levels, i.e., technical and vocational;
From 2003 to 2014, FITI trained and offered certificates in Mechanical Wood Industries and
From 2015 to date, FITI trains and offers certificates and diplomas in Forest Industries Technology.
Physically, FITI is located in Moshi Town in the Kilimanjaro Region.
