Prior to the release of DC’s Black Adam, Deadline claimed that Warner Brothers has pushed Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the superhero blockbuster Aquaman, until Christmas 2023. The film’s initial release date was pushed back from December 21, 2022 to March 17, 2023. Shazam: Fury of the Gods will now be released in March, instead of the original December 2022 release date for Aquaman 2.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom also star Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Dolph Lundgren, in addition to Momoa and Wilson. The sequel will be directed by James Wan, a horror master and Aquaman director, from a script by David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick. The two worked on the previous year’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It alongside franchise stars Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Although production for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom wrapped in January, there is no word on when a teaser for the next sequel will be published.

Delays have affected almost every studio, particularly for VFX-intensive productions like science fiction and superhero movies. In a February interview with Collider, franchise antagonist Patrick Wilson discussed the never-before-seen VFX methods used in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
In the first movie, Jason Momoa assumed the role of Arthur Curry, the title character, as he discovered his actual ancestry as the king of Atlantis. He had to fend off a highly talented pirate turned assassin as well as an evil half-brother who wanted the crown for himself throughout his turbulent ascension to the kingdom. His climb to the throne was a difficult one because he had to ward off both an evil half-brother who thought the realm was his, and a highly competent pirate turned supervillain who was seeking retribution for the death of his father.
