Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is a National Specialized and University Teaching Hospital offering cardiovascular care, training and research services. Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute was established in October 2015 by the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac (Establishment) Instrument, 2015 .The Institute has 103 bed capacity attending on average 700 outpatients and 100 inpatients per week.
The Institute has 203 employees organized into six directorates which are Cardiology services, Surgical Services, Nursing Services, Clinical Support Services and Corporate Services. These directorates are sub-divided into 16 departments.
Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is a Government owned hospital which serves patients from across all regions of United Republic of Tanzania who are referred from regional referral and designated hospitals for cardiovascular medical intervention.
The JKCI Workforce
The JKCI is boastful of her youthful staff but highly specialized in its areas of specialty. About 80% of the workforce is of the age between 20 and 44 years. The institute has 198 staff, the CEO inclusive with a very high gender imbalance in favor of female. Out of the 198 staff, 129 (65%) are female while 69 (35%) are male. This is a very unique situation and quite acclaimed. JKCI enjoys the services of 33 medical officers and medical specialists/consultants. Specifically, there are 28 (14%) medical specialists/consultants and 19 (10%) medical officers. The majority of the staffs are in the Assistant Nursing Officer where there are 61, which is 31% of the workforce.
