The opportunity to re-sign Alves could see Semedo leave the club
Dani Alves, considered by many as the greatest right back in FC Barcelona’s history, recently announced he would be leaving PSG this summer.
The Brazilian wants a Camp Nou return. Alves is aware that at 36, he wouldn’t be anything more than a short-term solution to the club’s issues, but he would love nothing more than to retire as a Barça player.
However, a deal to bring in a player on the verge of retirement isn’t what Barça are known for. Could they make an exception for Alves?
The option to bring in Alves does have some positives to it though. He’s shown, despite his advancing years, that he’s still good enough at the highest level as proven by his performances for PSG and Brazil. He’ll be available on a free transfer from the 30th June.
This isn’t something new for the Brazilian as he joined Juventus on a free transfer before signing for PSG on a free too. These transfers have helped Alves maintain control of his career and, perhaps equally as important, it’s allowed him to dictate the terms he wants.
If Alves did join Barça, it would allow the club to sell Nelson Semedo for a big profit and allow Wague a more active role in the first team picture. Sergi Roberto, as has been the case for a while now, is also capable of covering that role if need be.
